Re-imagining cubism

General

The visual identity of the ICU European Cheerleading Championships 2026 is deeply rooted in Prague’s artistic heritage, with Czech Cubism at its core. Known for sharp angles, abstract forms, and bold visual statements, Cubism provides a strong and expressive foundation for the championship’s branding.

Unlike other Cubist movements, Czech Cubism extended beyond painting into architecture, design, and applied arts, shaping the visual language of Prague itself. Influences from Czech artists such as Bohumil Kubišta, Emil Fila, and Josef Gočár are subtly integrated into the design, honoring the city’s cultural history while reinterpreting it through a contemporary lens.

A Natural Connection Between Cubism and Cheerleading

In its early stages, Cubism was bold, dynamic, daring, and complex—qualities that closely reflect the nature of cheerleading as a modern sport. Cheerleading transforms movement into structure, breaks routines into precise elements, and rebuilds them into synchronized performances.

Much like Cubism deconstructs form and perspective, cheerleading deconstructs motion and space. Both rely on geometry, rhythm, balance, and composition, where individual elements come together to create a powerful and unified whole. This shared visual language makes Cubism an ideal artistic concept for the championship.

Reimagined for a Modern Championship

The Prague 2026 visual system does not replicate Cubism as it once was—it reimagines it for today. Traditional geometric principles are combined with modern gradients, typography, and digital-first applications to create an identity that feels confident, contemporary, and expressive.

Designed to perform across all environments—from arena spaces and stage design to digital platforms and live broadcasts—the visual identity reflects cheerleading as a sport of the 21st century. By merging Czech Cubism with modern athletic expression, the ICU European Cheerleading Championships 2026 presents a visual identity that is both culturally grounded and forward-looking.
